Exercise Stats - Week 6 12WBT

On the 12wbt all of the exercise programs are at least 50 mins long and over the last few busy weeks I've found myself exercising a little less because of this. Exercise is much easier to fit in around a baby & work & well, life, when you are carving out a 30 min block, rather than 50 min. So after not exercising on boxing day for this very reason, I decided that at this point in my life there is nothing wrong with exercising for only 30mins each day. And I have fit in exercise the last two days in a row.

Monday - Earn Your Burn Michelle Bridges 50 min work out video - Lulu went back to sleep for two hours after a bottle at 5:15 so I had time to do the full 50min workout.

Tuesday - Christmas Day - Not on your life am I exercising on Christmas Day.

Wednesday - Boxing Day - No exercise on this day either

Thursday - nothing, not sure why, probably because I had no time to fit in the perfect 50 min workout

Friday - Week 3 of the 30 Day Shred - These workouts are only 30mins & I managed to do all of the advanced moves including half of the walking push ups. Had to do the other half at non-advanced level, but yay me for getting to the advanced level.

Saturday - Lulu woke up 5mins before the end of my workout after only having a 40 min nap. She was super tired so we went for a 2km  walk to get her back to sleep. She, of course, only fell asleep when we were 500m from being back at our house.

How did you go with exercise this week? Of all the weeks of the year to take a break from exercising, this is probably it.

Boxing Day Fun

As a teenager and lets face it, anytime I'm in a 'big city' for Christmas (I'm looking at you Calgary), the Boxing Day Sales were one of the highlights of the festive period. Getting the perfect bargin, that top that was $50 but is now $10, was awesome, but over the last few years of spending Christmas in Apollo Bay, away from any major shopping centres, the urgency to go to the sales has waned.

This year we put the call out to our friends and family to drop in during the afternoon. Bring your bathers, use the pool, have a post Christmas relax and chat, watch the cricket. And you know what? It just might be my new favourite Boxing Day activity.

How did you spend Boxing Day? Is it a holiday where you are or just another day? It sure is nice having a post-Christmas come down day.

GIRL IN THE PJS: Baby's First Christmas

1. Our mantle piece - am so glad we have a mantle piece. Perfect for styling at Christmas time

2. The tree at Nick's Mum's - we started the day at our house before heading to Nick's Mum's for brunch, more pressies (we were SO spoilt), then lunch.

3. There must be one more in there! We didn't believe her but she was correct, one more little present at the very bottom.

4. Reading her new Pantone Colour Book - never too young to study design

5. Beautiful lunchtime table setting

Poor effort in the Exercise Stats department

Todd River as viewed on my Thursday morning run
As you may have guessed from the lack of exercise stats posts, my exercising has dropped off during December. I've managed only 3, sometimes 4 exercise days a week instead of the 12wbt required 6. Now that I have two weeks off work over Christmas, I am anticipating that my exercise schedule will pick up again.

This week I tried the workout videos on 12wbt and they sure have increased the intensity of my workouts. I was sore all day Monday after the 'earn your burn' cardio video. Wednesday I did the 30 Day Shred video for a rest. Thursday I went for a run and Friday I tried the Legs, Chest, Back and Abs video. Lulu was due to wake from her nap in less than the allotted time for the video, so I just did the warm-up, first two sections and the abs section plus the cool down & I swear I am still a little sore today!

Are you managing to exercise during the Christmas period? I swear if I was in a cold climate over Christmas I'd find it very hard to make time to exercise!

Christmas Muppets

GIRL IN THE PJS: Christmas Muppets
Have you seen the Cee lo Green and the Muppets Christmas video yet? It is my favourite discovery this Christmas. I am a huge Muppets fan & have to watch the Muppets Christmas Carol every Christmas.

Is there a Christmas movie you have to watch each year? My dad has to watch Home Alone, the first & best one, each Christmas. I'm also partial to National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Ooh and I love A Charlie Brown Christmas. I think tonight might be the perfect night for a little Christmas movie action.

Sydney Shopping

Thursday, December 20, 2012

Living in a town of 28,000 people, there aren't a lot of opportunities for shopping. While Mixed Lollies and the new Unicorns in Love botiques have increased the selection of great going out clothes, there isn't much in the way of basics shopping. I dedicated my brief shopping time to basics and Christmas shopping and admiring the Christmas decorations.
I found a hole in my black skinny jeans the day before I left, so that added a little chaos to my shopping adventure, but I zeroed in on the Lee store and found a great pair there, really quickly. No hassle no fuss.

At Topshop I was invited into the personal shopping change rooms!! Though I think the invite was due to the shear amount of clothes I wanted to try on. I bet they were a little disappointed when I only left with four things - a pair of pants, a t-shirt (their t-shirts always fit me really well for some reason, a jumper (essential in 40 degree Alice Springs weather) and 3/4 sleeve top (also handy in 40 degree weather - but who knows when I'll be near a Topshop again).

Sometimes Sportsgirl hits the mark and other times they just look so terrible you have to leave. This time I was the latter. So garish. Ugh.

After a lot of searching I found Marimekko(the gps on my phone says they were in King Street Newtown, not King Street CBD). There the small size of nearly everything I liked was sold out, saving me a small fortune. I did but a cute 3/4 sleeve top (wearing it in photos here). Again with the new winter clothes for an Alice Springs summer. Oh well.

King Street Newtown did, however, meet many of my Christmas shopping needs and have a store where I could pick up a pair of saltwater sandals - yay!

So there you have it, a great day and a bit of shopping in Sydney.

Brown paper packages tied up with string

Sunday, December 16, 2012

Picking gifts and wrapping presents has to be one of my most favourite things. Do you like wrapping presents? Each year I try to do something different for the wrapping, but it generally ends up just variations of brown paper packages tied up with string.

This year I've made tags using plain tags from the newsagency, then stamping them with a silver snowflake stamp. I chose brown paper and then tied red and white string that I purchased from the hardware store around the gift. And voila! Present wrapped.

My parents have been here for the last week and this afternoon we're celebrating Christmas as we won't be together on the real Christmas day.  I figured that when Lulu wakes from her afternoon nap would be the best time to open presents and then we can all have an evening meal together. I cannot wait to see her little face.

Blogshop was fantastic. I learnt so much my head was aching at the end of each day, in a good way. I can now do in minutes what used to take hours. Short cuts are my friends and I can barrel with the best of them. Everything I learnt has a direct application to blogging, making my blogging life much easier. I would totally recommend this course. Do it.

Here are a few photos I took over the weekend. For some reason unknown, photobucket or blogger has changed the size of the jpegs, so please bare with me as I work out the kinks. If you have any tips, please leave a comment below... Thanks for your help Briana, I've worked it out!

Blogshop Sydney

I'm headed to Syndey today for Blogshop!! I can't wait. A mini holiday & a chance to learn how to use a bit more of photoshop. Follow me on twitter and instagram for mini updates and I'll be sure to tell you all about it next week.

When do you put up the Christmas tree?

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

I have a confession to make, our tree went up the weekend before last. I know, I know, it was a little early but I couldn't wait. As a kid we had to wait until after Mum and Dad's wedding anniversary (2nd December, this year was their 40th!!) to put up the tree. The wait was always excruciating, especially since the Adelaide Christmas Pageant is at the beginning of November, signaling the start to the Christmas season.

When do you put up your Christmas tree? Do you have a tree? Sarah over on Reverie blog started off their Advent calendar with putting up the Christmas tree & I think this might be something we adopt in future years too. Another good idea came from Nick's mum. The first Christmas that he was old enough to really appreciate Christmas, she put up the tree after he had gone to bed Christmas Eve, so Christmas morning was a double surprise of great tree and presents! He loved it. I think this also cuts out a month of telling off a toddler for messing with the tree. Next year this will be the way we roll.

Sunsets and New Wheels

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

After work and daycare last week, we all went for a drive in our new car. Until now I had been putting Lulu in and out of a two door Barina - back breaking and awkward to say the least. We now have a shiny new Subaru Outback station wagon with plenty of doors and loads of boot space for Lulu's pram and other paraphernalia. The sunset we took in on the drive was AMAZING. I had to take a few snaps to show you.

Half way through the drive this little munchkin had fallen asleep, luckily she'd had dinner and a quick bath before the drive so she could go straight into her cot when we arrived home.

In other news, this is the last season of The Office, so savour it. The Office is our go to, feel good show. We love to laugh & the Office loves to make us laugh. It carried on well after the departure of the lead actor and it shall be missed.

Frocks, Parties and Brunch

Another weekend of parties and frocks! Friday night we were invited to the Chief Minister's Christmas Party and since Nick & I would never miss a chance for free drinks and hob nobbing, we went.

Saturday Lulu had a tummy bug & spent most of the day sleeping on us or in her cot, poor little thing. Saturday night we had our friend's mum's 60th to go to, so a sparkly dress and a new hair do was called for. Yes you may be adding up that we had two baby free evenings, lucky us!

Sunday I went to a fundraising brunch for my friend Noosh who will be running in the London marathon next year. We had breakfast tacos - yummy. You can read all about the menu and Noosh's training on her blog Noosh Likes Running. An afternoon nap with Sir Elton was called for after all the parties and brunching. A weekend well spent.

Exercise Stats - Week 2 12WBT

Looking east at Mt Gillen from the Gosse St drain, Spencer Hill on right - Early Tuesday Morning

The scales may not have moved but I am getting fitter

Sunday - rest day.

Monday - Exercised mid-morning, doing the C25k week 4 plus walk to, around and from town.

Tuesday - Up by 6:15am, starting with the 30 Day Shred week 1 plus extra toning exercises from 12WBT.

Wednesday - I downloaded interval timer (Thanks @nicolenoodles) and set up my own interval run - 5min warm up walk, 4x1min intervals where I can sprint, then jog then sprint/jog faster, then jog, followed by a 2min walking break. This repeats for 4 cycles then a 5min cool down. You can run to your own music too, which was nice. the app also gives you a stats update 15mins in telling you how far you've gone and your time per km. I paused the app before the cool down and did one set of the exercises the 12wbt set for today if I was doing exercises at home. I went for my run at 6am and came home to Lulu and Nick still sleeping. I have to say I was a little jealous.

Thursday - Did not feel like exercise at all. Forced myself to do Week 1 30 Day Shred after Nick finished work. Felt great after.

Friday - Again did not fee up to doing yoga so had a coffee and played with the baby.

Saturday - Did Week 2 of 30 Day Shred for the first time in a long time. Felt good after.
