The first trimester was an absolute shocker this time round. The 1st trimester when I was pregnant with Lulu I wasn't working. I could sleep in as long as I wanted, I could stay in bed or read or watch tv, nap whenever I needed and then go to bed early. This time, with full-time work and a 3 year old, the 1st trimester was a whole different ballgame.

Sickness and sleep
I practically slept 18 hours a day on the weekend. I constantly felt like I had a hangover, without the memories of an awesome night dancing! I only felt like eating greasy food. Each day I would come good around 8pm, meaning I'd stay up later than I really should and then the whole horrible cycle would continue the next day. And there were 3 or 4 days where I threw up constantly, but at least these days weren't consecutively.

Did it ever subside?
All this finally subsided by the time I was 16 weeks. Yep, you heard me correctly, 16 weeks. A terrifying thought for anyone only 6 weeks pregnant. How did I balance it all? Well, work were accomodating with the occasional sick day (about 1 a week), Nick took over the majority of Lulu parenting. His mum also helped out and thank goodness for daycare!

Pregnancy 1st Trimester Truths
Greasy food It is a ok to eat greasy food. It is the only thing that will make you feel better! Chips and gravy for morning tea will always do the trick.
Sleep You need to sleep. Don't let anyone pay you out for going to bed at 7:30pm. Sometimes you just can't keep your eyes open any longer! A 4 hour nap on the weekend and then an 8:00pm bedtime is perfectly acceptable.
Exercise This is for the 2nd trimester! A 'fit pregnancy' does not happen in the 1st trimester. Just focus on getting through the day with the worst hangover of your life, while pretending you are a-ok.

Were you really sick during your pregnancy? How long did it last? What are your tips for handling sickness in pregnancy? Please share your experience in the comments below, I'd love to know.
